Our Beliefs

OUR DOCTRINAL BELIEFS

What We Believe at SLBC

We believe that the Bible is the inspired word of God and is without error (2 Timothy 3:16).

We believe in the virgin birth of Jesus Christ (Matthew 1:18).

We believe in the Holy Trinity, one God in three persons, Father, Son and Holy Spirit (Matthew 3:16-17; 2 Cor. 13:14).

We believe in the substitutionary death of Jesus on the cross (2 Corinthians 5:21; 1 Peter 2:24).

We believe in the bodily resurrection of Jesus (1 Corinthians 15:3-4, 20-21).

We believe in the physical and bodily return of Christ (Acts 1:11; Revelation 1:7).

We believe in the reality that man has inherited Adam’s fallen sin nature (Romans 5:12, 19), and as a result man is a sinner by nature, separated from God, and the object of God’s wrath (Ephesians2:1-3).

We believe that in order for man to be reconciled to God he must be born again (John 3:3); and this is accomplished by grace alone, through faith alone in Christ alone (Ephesians 2:4-8).

We believe in the eternal security of the believer (John 10:27-29), because the believer is kept by the power of God (1 Peter 1:5).

We believe in a literal heaven for those who accept Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior and a literal hell for those who reject Him (John 14:1-6; 2 Thessalonians 1:8).

We believe that our commission as a church is to make disciples, followers of Jesus Christ (Matthew 28:19).

We believe and practice the two ordinances God has given to His church: (1) Water baptism (Matthew 28:19; Acts 2:38), and (2) The Lord’s Supper (Matthew 26:26-28; 1 Corinthians 11:23-26).

We are a Southern Baptist Church affiliated with the Baptist General Convention of Texas (“BGCT”), and with the Southern Baptist Convention.  We adhere to the doctrinal statement as published in the Baptist Faith and Message (2000).
